Decorate With Color
Carry your Gemtone cards (not your drapes or
countertop) when shopping
for decor!
Color
has a tremendous effect not only on how our home, office, conference room
or place of worship looks, but how we feel in it. Here are some tips to
keep in mind when choosing paint colors.
Sometimes the best color cues can be found in artwork, upholstery ,the type of wood
and other accents already in the room.
Remember every time you put two colors together, both colors change colors. Light
colors reflect light making space more open. Dark colors recede, giving
the same space a smaller more compact appearance.
Blues whether warm or cool blue, are usually used in bathrooms, bedrooms and
nursery. In a large space will make the area feel cold to your viewing
audience. Blue relates to sky and water.
Neutral colors such as an off white is peaceful, allowing the audience to pay
attention to the speaker and is restful to the eye. A blue article of
clothing does not have the same effect as a large amount of blue. Also the
clothing of most will clash with blue, (light or Dark blue) causing the
audience to unconsciously feel cold and or not concentrate on matters at
hand.
Mistakes are made when trendy colors and fad colors are used in large expansive
areas. A small amount of those colors can be used as small accents.
Neutral colors lend themselves to seasonal décor, such as flowers for
spring, summer, fall and winter. Weddings are photographed better with
neutral backgrounds. Blue can also make one feel sad when it is the main
color the eye is focused on.
