A Note from Charli:

Spring fashions for 2010 are abundant with turquoise as the front runner. Turquoise can be a tricky color as a major fashion piece and is best purchased as a trendy accessory color. The spring palette shown by the color experts offer lots of neutrals with punches of color.

Remember you are part of someone's environment and what you wear sends a definite message to everyone you encounter in only 30 seconds. What your image says impacts whether or not you will be a winner or loser."The stakes are that high" says Roger Ailes, author and accomplished Media Master.  "It's that important for you to accept that YOU, (the whole you) are the message and that message determines whether or not you will get what you want. "Be who you are in YOUR best colors: Diamond, Sapphire, Topaz or Opal.At work or in public, don't let your wardrobe overwhelm your audience.  In general, dress conservatively – nothing gaudy or loud, whether it is a suit, makeup or accessories ranging from ties to jewelry.  Too much of anything is simply too much.Keeping core wardrobe items a fairly neutral color, such as Navy, allows polishing your image with shirts, blouses and accessories in YOUR signature Gemtone® colors.

Navy blue comes in many shades and there is a shade of Navy for everyone.

Enjoy your spring color options, be true to yourself and remember YOU (your image) are the message that everyone sees.  What a great rule of 3's!!!

Colorfully yours,

Charli

Energize Your Mornings

Yes, it is time to wake up and smell the roses...

Research backed studies have determined that people are
actually hard-wired to respond positively to fresh blooms.
Ok, it doesn't have to be roses.

Since fresh flowers signal the early signs of spring, our bodies are actually energized by the sight and aroma of flowers. Psychologically it lets us know that the life energy of fruit and honey are on the horizon.

In the world of color psychology, orange, red and yellow blooms stimulate the adrenal glands to produce increased
levels of energy.

Who wouldn't love to wake up to such a refreshing feeling?

The Eyes Have It

The colors you use for your eye makeup can either make your eyes appear subtle or they can make your eyes 'pop'.

For example, blue eyes will be enhanced by shadows that have cool tones (pale blue, pinks, lilac) and green eyes will shine with warmer greens, golds, and apricot colors.  If you have brown eyes, various shades of walnut, cream and deeper browns will provide a great beginning.  It is also important to recognize your skin undertones so you choose complementary or dramatic colors to enhance these undertones.

If you are new to using eye shadows, you can start by choosing some neutral colors, taupe, cream, light charcoal and medium brown.  Add other colors to these base colors one at a time.  Too many colors can muddy the look.  When you put two colors beside each other, they will both change slightly from their original perception.

The key to successful eye allure is color and application.

  • Keep colors simple.
  • Use a lid primer color (usually a lighter color that will neutralize shadows and give a smooth color and surface for additional layers),
  • One or two colors for depth and/or drama
  • A third highlight color to deposit under the brow to 'lift' the eye.

When using eyeliner, don't start your line abruptly in the middle of the lid. We have a 'whole eye', so use liner from the inner lid to the outer lash line.  If you want to give the illusion of wider eyes, smudge or slightly widen the line at the outer lash line, but be sure there is still a thin line along the entire lash line.

Finally, make sure you keep brows tamed, either by waxing or plucking the strays. After all, they are the 'frame' for those beautiful beauties!

The biggest 'secret' to beautiful, enticing eyes.... Blend, blend, blend and then blend again!

The Color Blue -- Starting the Flow of Wealth

One of my favorite places to vacation is the beach. I used to live on a remote atoll in the Pacific Island (Google Johnston Island and you'll see me in a gas mask as well as pictures of this tiny pimple in the Pacific) and it was there that I began to notice the variations of blue in water. The island is the most remote landmass in the world and because it is the water is pristine.

The atoll is actually an extinct volcano, so living there meant we were living at the top of the volcano. All around the island was extremely deep water, so the water by the island was almost clear and then as it became deeper, it looked like the shades of blue on a paint chip from the hardware store: light at the top and deep blue, almost black, at the bottom.

All water is not created equal though.

Some water is light, pale and sun-drenched, some water is turquoise or cornflower blue and begs you to dive in, and some water is thousands of feet deep and so dark you can't see a hand in front of your face.

The same is true with water in feng shui.

Water is the element associated with career, job and business opportunities - and generating more income. Water is considered yin in nature because it takes things inward (think of a stone thrown in a pond) and falls downward. In feng shui, water is also considered to be a danger. If you've ever witnessed a flood or a hydroelectric dam, you know the awesome power water yields.

Yet of all the elements of fire, metal, wood, and earth, it's water that has the greatest power to create wealth.

That's why water's associated color, blue, is so critical - even more so than black, the more common feng shui color for water. Few people have ever witnessed water so dark that it's black, but most everyone has seen water that's blue.

Your association with an element is more powerful when it's relevant to you.

And, while I know that black is the color of deep water and the color of water in feng shui, it's blue that most often makes me think "water," and chances are you do, too. For this reason, the color blue is especially important when you want feng shui to bring you money.

Read the tips below about blue and make the color a priority if wealth is what you're after!

Blue doors welcome money.

If your home faces southeast, north, east, or southwest, painting your door a rich blue will help to stimulate wealth - and almost INSTANTLY! Blue represents water at your front door, which is extremely auspicious. Don't miss an opportunity to paint your door blue if your house faces one of the favorable directions. And, if you've painted it black, that's great, too!

Blue jewelry beckons money to you.

Wearing metal jewelry helps to stimulate wealth because metal makes water in feng shui, so be sure to select and wear blue jewelry and accents - especially in the Year of the Tiger. If you are an east person (like I am! Check your kua number here), this doubles the effect!

Blue is for beginnings.

In feng shui, everything comes from nothing. When you want to get something started, the color blue can play an important role. The color blue and its associated element, water, is symbolic of the New Moon, when the moon is dark. It's at the time the moon is new that seeds planted have the greatest chance of occurring. This makes the Chinese New Year so important - because it coincides with the first New Moon of the year.

Blue wallets and purses for 2010!

Most years, red is the color for wallets and purses. This year, the tiger, a spring-time and wood-element animal sign will be battling the annual metal energy. This will hurt the animal's natural tendencies and mean that money will suffer. To help you through the year - and increase your income and accumulated money - carry a blue wallet and purse.

Blue for promotion, love, and fame.

Wherever the annual 4 Star visits, that's the spot to add blue. Blue colors are a perfect stimulator - but they don't "over-stimulate" the 4 Star, which could lead to infidelity. Instead, use blue colors and accents versus real water. This will help you get recognition, especially if you speak or write for a living or if you are a student. It will also help singles in search of romance attract a love interest. For those who are married, the blue color will help to feed their romantic inclinations without over-stimulating the four star so as to invite a third party to the romance.

Blue is the color of career, business growth, and opportunity.

Blue colors are associated with the north, the direction of career and business opportunity. When you undertake new career endeavors or want to expand your direction, put your focus on the north sector and be sure to use the color blue - and water, too!

Blue for generating wealth.

When most people want to create more wealth and prosperity, what they really want is more income. But they most often activate the southeast wealth sector. This is incorrect because the wealth sector is the sector of accumulated assets - not income. For that reason, add blue colors to the north to stimulate income and generate money.

Blue for growing assets.

If you have a stock portfolio, investment or savings accounts that you would like to see grow, then adding blue to the southeast wealth sector is the right thing to do. Adding blue here will help you amass more wealth and accumulate more money and see a rise in your investments. In 2010, this is especially helpful, but it's a good idea to add water to the southeast in any year. That's because water feeds the southeast sector of small wood.

Prada's UNcolor

The spring 2010 fashion runways had a strange surprise.

Prada has re-inroduced the clear viny bag. Albeit it is adorned with semi-precious and glass glitz, it's textile counterpart has much more class. I will never understand why anyone would want their lipstick and keys on display. Better yet, try one of the colorful bags by Fendi.
