Know Your Style in the New Year
Posted by Charli Mace on 12/27/2011

Each year people come up with their New Year’s resolutions but unfortunately many of them fade away! Start this year off on the right foot and make this year the year for a “new you”. Since we all know that image is so important, we can, this coming year, make that important decision to change our persona.

Six Questions to Consider:

1.   Do you love walking into your closet?

2.   Do you hate getting dressed in the morning and feel like you would rather spend the day in your pajamas?

3.   Do you feel you are a confident person in your clothing?

4.   Are you reflecting the image you want (think about if you were them!) to others?

5.   Do I really fit the description who walks into a closet filled with clothes and nothing to wear?!

6.   Have you thrown away items of clothing you NEVER ever wore?

How Do You Consider What Looks Good on You? Here are 5 Suggestions:

1.   Evaluate Your Body Type.  This can also be called a figure analysis. Measuring different lengths and widths of your body can be calculated to see what type of body shape you are. Different cuts and styles of clothing are optimal for certain body types, and should not be worn by others.

2.   Identify Your Skin Tone. Skin tone is more than just how tan you are. Slight undertones and overtones in everyone's skin can make a large difference between a color looking great on you, or is the color you choose.....just looking drab?

3.   Know YOUR Best Colors. You must have a brilliant understanding of colors and how they can complement each other before putting together an outfit. Knowing what matches and what doesn't can be determined by knowing Analogous, Complementary and Double Complementary color schemes, as well as variants of their hues and saturation. (Hint-  Hint:  ColorTools Gemtone Cards are perfect for this!)

4.   Line and Design.  Different types of patterns can give you the appearance of looking taller or thinner. Different body types should wear patterns differently to achieve optimal appearance.

5.   Lifestyle Dressing.  Age, situation, and cultural environment factors should all be weighed in when choosing an outfit or wardrobe.

In all situations, business and social, our outward appearance sends a message. Look around you at what people are wearing and see if you don't make judgments about who they are, what their line of business is, what their personalities are and judge their competencies.

Think about how you feel when you are dressed in your usual business attire as opposed to choosing casual dress. Your choice of business apparel speaks to your professional behavior and credibility.

Enjoy!  Charli
